Everton could land next Lukaku with Dike

So far this season, Everton have picked up five wins, four draws and eight defeats in their first season under Rafa Benitez, going through October and November without a league win.

Currently sitting in 14th place, Everton have the chance to splash the cash during the imminent January transfer window to try and strengthen their squad, while putting their poor form behind them to end the season as high up the table as they can.

90min recently reported that United States international Daryl Dike has been offered to various Premier League clubs, with Orlando City willing to let the striker leave in January after previously being linked with a move to Goodison Park.

As a result, this could be one transfer that Everton look to complete to strengthen their squad, particularly in an attacking sense.

A new Lukaku?

If the Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri were able to sign Dike in January, the striker could be Everton’s next version of Romelu Lukaku, who scored 87 goals in 166 senior games during his time at the Merseyside club, given how Dike has been likened to the Chelsea star in the past based on his power and strength.

Former teammate Jordan Williams once said: “Daryl has got a rocket of a right foot. I think he’s similar to Lukaku. He hasn’t scored as many goals yet, but he can hit a ball just as hard.”

In a combined total of 63 appearances for Orlando and previous club Barnsley, the 21-year-old has managed to rack up 28 goals and four assists in the process, showing how capable he is in front of goal at still a fairly young age.

Labelled as a “powerful” player by Emile Heskey that “knows where the back of the net is” and “who understands his strengths and ability and runs with it,” the forward has shown that he is a natural goalscorer and could have a big future ahead of him.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured and Cenk Tosun reportedly facing the exit door, Dike could be a useful attacking option for Everton throughout the remainder of the season, potentially allowing the club to forget all about Salomon Rondon who has only managed to score one goal in 12 appearances this season.

With all of this in mind, if the 21-year-old has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs, Everton should definitely explore the possibility of signing him.

Journo says incomings unlikely for Liverpool

Liverpool are unlikely to sign anyone during the January transfer window “as things stand”, according to James Pearce.

What’s the talk?

There had been suggestions from Fabrizio Romano that Liverpool had made a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria about a potential transfer.

However, Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce has refuted these claims, stating: “As things stand I’d be surprised if LFC sign anyone in January.”

Lessons never learnt

Liverpool have been brilliant this season, suffering just one defeat in all competitions up to now against West Ham last month in the Premier League. They currently sit second in the Premier League, just one point behind leaders Manchester City and became the first English team to have a 100% record in the Champions League group stages.

But injuries have been a problem for the squad over the last 18 months and fans are worried that it could become the case again.

Last season the Reds lost all of their senior central defenders to injury, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho filling in for periods of the season as they struggled to a third-place finish.

This season Klopp has had to deal with long-term injuries to both Harvey Elliott and Roberto Firmino, while Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Thiago and Henderson have all suffered with injuries at different points of the campaign too.

Fans were hopeful that after a quiet summer transfer window, in which only Ibrahima Konate was brought in, that the winter could be a bit busier with the club fighting on all fronts for silverware still and last season’s struggles fresh in the memory.

The news from Pearce seemingly has Liverpool content with their current squad, which understandably, has certain fans fuming ahead of the second half of the season and a busy schedule.

One fan commented, “Does this club ever learn? 09, 14, 19. Top at Xmas with no January signings followed by draws or defeats. Go and find a surprise package. Old or New. Take a chance. It doesn’t work not taking a chance. History has proved that. Add to that our weak bench & afcon!!”

The club are set to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane during January for the African Cup of Nations tournament, which will further weaken their squad. Thus the potential for no new faces arriving over the winter is a pretty rejecting statement to read for the Anfield faithful.

Celtic: Journalist makes Carter-Vickers claim

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has made a claim regarding Celtic’s possible permanent swoop for Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers, Give Me Sport report.

The Lowdown: Carter-Vickers under Postecoglou

Carter-Vickers was the club’s final addition over the summer, joining on deadline day in a season-long loan deal that includes an option to buy next summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-19/” title=”Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Since then, the 23-year-old has been an ever-present figure at the back under Ange Postecoglou, making 20 appearances in green and white.

He’s missed just one Scottish Premiership fixture following his move and was hailed as an ‘excellent professional’ by Kenny Dalglish.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s claim

Give Me Sport shared the latest news on Carter-Vickers making a permanent Parkhead switch, suggesting both Celtic and the player are keen on a full-time move.

Reporter O’Rourke gave his thoughts on a possible permanent swoop to Give Me Sport, admitting he wasn’t sure if the Hoops could reach the £10m asking price, as reported by The Daily Record.

“Cameron Carter-Vickers has made a big impression since his loan move from Tottenham, but I’m not sure if Celtic could reach that £10m valuation that Spurs are looking for a permanent deal, though.”

The Verdict: Club record fee

Should Celtic stump up the fee for Carter-Vickers, they’d reportedly have to pay two separate add-ons which would take the deal over £10m.

That would make him the club’s most expensive signing of all time, eclipsing the £9.27m move that made Odsonne Edouard’s loan permanent from Paris Saint-Germain.

There’s no denying that Carter-Vickers has impressed at Celtic Park, however, £10m is a lot of money, especially with the Hoops already spending over £20m in the summer and seemingly looking at four January permanent additions in Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Daizen Maeda and on-loan Jota.

Younis praises Afridi after big win

Pakistan’s captain Younis Khan has applauded Shahid Afridi for his Man-of-the-Match effort in the team’s comprehensive victory over New Zealand in the first ODI in Abu Dhabi. Afridi blasted 70 from 50 balls to help set up Pakistan’s 287 for 9 and then grabbed two wickets, including the key dismissal of Daniel Vettori, from consecutive balls in New Zealand’s chase.”He [Afridi] is a fantastic performer,” Younis said after the match. “The last couple of years he worked well with the bowling but now his batting is there so it’s good for Pakistan.”It was a complete professional performance led by the fantastic Afridi and [Kamran] Akmal. They changed the game after we were in trouble in the first ten overs.”There wasn’t much for New Zealand to celebrate in a match where they had Pakistan 0 for 2 but allowed a recovery and leaked 107 runs in the final ten overs. In reply, only three of New Zealand’s batsmen reached double figures and but for a 69-run stand between Vettori and Aaron Redmond, the result could have been even worse than the 138-run defeat.”We were on our way to restrict them to 220-230,” Vettori said. “But Afridi and Akmal batted very well and we strayed in the last 12 to 15 overs and in the batting Powerplay.”The win gives Pakistan an early lead in the three-match ODI series in Abu Dhabi before the sides head to Dubai for two Twenty20 internationals. Younis said it continued to be disappointing his team could not host matches in their own country.”Although we have a lot of supporters in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, we still need to play some games in Pakistan,” Younis said. “I hope that we’ll soon play again in Pakistan.”

Bond will not be rushed back into Tests – Vettori

Daniel Vettori: ‘He’s going to need some four-day cricket and as soon as he gets that I think he’s going to be able to put his hand up for selection’•AFP

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has said that Shane Bond will not be rushed back into Test cricket when Pakistan arrive next month. Vettori said Bond will be given the freedom to decide on his return after acclimatising and adjusting to the rigors of the longer version of the game after a lengthy lay-off.New Zealand will face Pakistan for three ODIs and two Twenty20s in the UAE early next month before heading back home for three Tests. Bond, who made his international comeback in Sri Lanka recently, has been included for the UAE leg. It has been close to two years since he played a Test and his availability for the first match in Dunedin, starting November 24, is not guaranteed, according to his captain.”It’s a difficult one, it’s going to be tough. Obviously that’s what we want to happen but Shane hasn’t played four-day cricket for a long, long time,” Vettori said. “We don’t want to force him into it and realise we could set him back. He’s going to need some four-day cricket and as soon as he gets that I think he’s going to be able to put his hand up for selection.”New Zealand conclude their UAE tour on November 13, after which the players join their domestic sides for the first-class State Championship. Bond will have an opportunity to acclimatise when Canterbury play Otago from November 17. But if Bond feels he is not fit for the first Test he will have to wait till Canterbury’s next game, against Auckland starting November 24, and that will mean skipping the Test.”He’s got the opportunity to play in a four-day game but that’s probably a day after stepping off the plane after being in Dubai,” Vettori said. “Whether that’s the best thing to do or not, Shane is the best judge of that.”If he plays in that first Canterbury game and goes well the selectors will definitely look at him. I’d be guided by what he says because he’s such a valuable asset that if we don’t utilise him well, we could get ourselves in trouble.”The second Test starts at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on December 3.

Rangers without Barisic, Kent and Jack

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been left fuming as some early team news emerged ahead of their game away at Motherwell at Sunday lunchtime.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match in the Scottish Premiership, Steven Gerrard has now revealed that his team will be without Borna Barisic, Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack for the trip.

Jack seems to be suffering setback after setback, and so many members of the Ibrox faithful are desperate to see him back on the pitch again.

Kent has still not recovered from an ongoing hamstring injury, and the Light Blues have only managed to win three of their last six games in the SPFL without him (Transfermarkt).

Barisic has been rated as the Bears’ joint-second best player in the division so far this season with a 7.16 average rating from WhoScored, while he also ranks highly among his teammates in terms of average tackles (1.5), clearances (three), key passes (2.3) and crosses (3.2) per match.

LFC fans want to sign Kessie

Liverpool fans want to sign Franck Kessie after the Reds were linked with a move for the AC Milan midfielder.

Over the past few years, 24-year-old Kessie has evolved into one of the best midfielders in Serie A. He started out at Atalanta, where he scored seven goals and provided three assists in 31 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt). That earned him a move to Milan, one of the biggest clubs in the country. He has continued to impress, missing just 10 league matches since making the move in 2017.

However, his contract is set to run out at the end of the season. And, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Reds are prepared to pay the €8m-a-year (£6.8m) contract the Ivory Coast international is looking for.

The news was shared on Twitter by @AnfieldEdition, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the rumour, with one fan claiming Kessie is ‘perfect’…

Bazunu targets Premier League loan in 22/23

Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, who is currently on loan at Portsmouth, reportedly wants to make a loan switch to a Premier League club in 2022.

The Lowdown: Bazunu impresses

The youngster has been in impressive form so far this term for both club and country. He has kept four clean sheets in 10 League One matches for Pompey (Transfermarkt).

He also has seven caps for the Republic of Ireland despite being just 19 years of age, turning in a goalkeeping masterclass in a World Cup qualifier against Serbia last month.

The Latest: Bazunu wants Premier League move

According to The Sun, Bazunu wants to make a move to the Premier League in the next few months.

He is currently on loan at Fratton Park until the end of the season, so he will have the chance to achieve his goal at the start of the 2022/23 campaign, with Manchester City already working on where to send him once his time at Portsmouth is done.

The Verdict: He deserves the chance

Despite his tender age, Bazunu is already looking like a star of the future. He already has 48 senior appearances to his name across spells at Shamrock Rovers, Rochdale and Pompey, and he has been called “different class” by Portsmouth team-mate Clark Robertson.

He is still quite young but that does not mean he couldn’t cut it in the Premier League. With him already having international experience and looking the part for Ireland, there is no reason why he would not be able to cut it amongst the elite.

It remains to be seen whether he will make the step up to top-flight level from next autumn or whether City may test him in the Championship first.

In other news, lots of Man City fans were gutted over this news on another youngster on the club’s books
