Bruno Fernandes has told Sporting Lisbon that he wants to move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, per The Mail on Sunday.

What’s the word?

Spurs have been heavily linked with a swoop for an attacking midfielder this summer, with the London Evening Standard reporting last week that the club were “determined” to sign either Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis or Fernandes.

And it now appears that the Portugal international is keen on a transfer, too, The Mail reporting that he has informed the club of his desire to move to London.

Of course, the English transfer window shuts on Thursday and it remains to be seen if the two clubs will reach an agreement.

The report claims that Spurs have made a bid but that it falls short of the Portuguese side’s valuation, which is said to stand at £64m.

A breakthrough at last

Spurs need to sign some players.

The club have only bought Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon this summer to strengthen the first-team squad – Jack Clarke, of course, was loaned back to Leeds United following his acquisition.

Bringing in Fernandes, a player who scored 32 goals last season in all competitions, would go a long way to ensuring that Spurs’ squad is as strong as it can possibly be for the beginning of the 2019/20 season.

Of course, he would ease the burden on central striker Harry Kane, as well as adding an extra dimension to the attacking midfield ranks.

A fee of £64m is steep, but one imagines that price may fall after the player supposedly aired his own desire to move.

وينتهي عقد ميسي مع الفريق الكتالوني بنهاية الموسم الحالي، ولم يصل النجم الأرجنتيني لاتفاق حتى الآن لتجديد عقده.

وأشارت صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية إلى أنه وفقًا لعقد ميسي، فإن هذا يعني أن الأرجنتيني سيدفع ما مجموعه 370 مليون يورو لسلطات الضرائب الإسبانية على مدى أربع سنوات.

بما في ذلك ضريبة الدخل العادية البالغة 275 مليون يورو، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الضرائب الأخرى التي يدفعها قائد برشلونة.

The transfer season is upon us and for Manchester United, it is starting to feel like their biggest summer in some time.

A poor end to the season which saw them lose eight of their final 12 games will likely see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under immense pressure right from the get-go at the start of next season, so making the right signings this summer could be crucial for the Norwegian.

But according to Sky Sports, United are interested in West Ham defender Issa Diop, who despite only playing in the Premier League for a single season has caught the attention of the Red Devils.

United are in need of a big shake-up in defence after conceding 54 Premier League goals last season, the second-worst return in the top half. But here are two reasons why the club shouldn’t even be thinking about a move for Diop, who could prove to be one of their biggest mistakes of the summer if a deal gets over the line…

Diop won’t take United to the next level

Diop has impressed in his first season at West Ham having played all but five Premier League games for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and averaged 1.9 interceptions and 2.1 tackles per game along the way, the second and fifth highest returns in the squad respectively.

But there has been nothing to suggest he can really take United to the next level. He’s never played in European competitions before, is still yet to be capped by the French national team and despite United’s defensive woes last season, Diop was part of a backline that conceded one goal more in the Premier League.

The Red Devils need someone proven and experienced to bring composure and organisation to the heart of defence, but Diop is a mere 22-year-old. Despite a decent debut season, it’s not clear he’s actually an upgrade on Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly or Victor Lindelof – so why take a punt on him?

Too much money

West Ham clearly know they’re in the driving seat here with The Telegraph reporting that they’re valuing Diop at an incredibly audacious £75m – the same fee Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago.

Few would argue that investment hasn’t worked out after the Dutchman helped clinch the Champions League title for Liverpool, but van Dijk arrived at Anfield with Champions League, international and considerable Premier League experience under his belt and through his combination of impeccable defending, physicality and quality in possession, already looked like a top-end centre-half.

Diop just isn’t in the same category at this moment in time; one season in the Premier League certainly isn’t enough to go on when judging whether he deserves such a lofty fee. And to put into perspective how ridiculous that fee is, West Ham paid less than a third of that to sign him a year ago, while Harry Maguire – an England international with more than 100 Premier League outings under his belt – is about to move to Manchester City for just £65m.

If United are prepared to meet West Ham’s valuation of Diop, clearly something has gone incredibly wrong in their transfer department.

Liverpool fans on Twitter are incredibly excited at the prospect of signing Sepp van den Berg after a video showing his best moments was put on Twitter.

The Telegraph have reported that the Dutch defender will be joining the club imminently.

For a number of supporters, this short video will be the first footage they see of their reported new signing, and they are impressed by what they have seen.

Unsurprisingly reports of the Reds being linked with a Dutch centre-back led to some comparisons with PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk by the Anfield faithful.

It has to be said that the defender looks brilliant in the video that was shared on social media, but it’s hard to say that he will become a star player at Anfield. The 17-year-old made just 15 appearances in the Eredivisie last season and is still clearly an emerging talent.

Despite his lack of experience, Liverpool fans have already been touting him as the next big thing.

وعن الثنائي كوادرادو وكييزا، أشاد بيرلو: “كوادرادو بطل، لقد لعب على أعلى مستوى لمدة 10 سنوات، لذا فهو معتاد على هذا النوع من الألعاب”.

وأكمل: “حتى أسابيع قليلة مضت، لم يكن كييزا قد لعب في أوروبا مطلقًا، بينما ارتداء قميص يوفنتوس يختلف عن الأندية الأخرى”.

Per a report from The Daily Mail, Wolves are interested in signing Victor Camarasa, who spent the season on loan at relegated Cardiff.

What’s the word?

Camarasa was one of few standout players for Cardiff this season as Neil Warnock’s side lacked the potency to keep them in the division.

The Spaniard scored five goals, the joint most of any Bluebirds player throughout the 2018/19 campaign.

The midfield man spent the season on loan from Real Betis in Spain but he could now be on the move again if The Daily Mail are to be believed.

They claim that Wolves are keen on signing the player but face competition from West Ham. The report suggests that Betis are considering loaning or selling him but it isn’t yet known what sort of deal they’d prefer.

At present, Transfermarkt rate the player at £5.4m.

Worrying message for Wolves youngsters?  

Birmingham Live claimed last week that Nuno Santo was wanting reinforcements in his midfield, but for a player of Camarasa’s ability they’d be better off promoting from within.

It’s no secret that the Midlands club need more depth in their squad but considering Wolves’ top half finish and the fact they’ll be in the Europa League next season, they arguably need to invest in better quality. The alternative would be to not bring in anyone at all.

By signing the midfielder, it would limit the game time of some of Wolves’ most promising players. Morgan Gibbs-White struggled for regular starts this term, appearing just five times from the off in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the club also have young midfielders in Pote and Connor Ronan coming through the ranks.

Pote was one of the stars as Wolves’ U23 side won the Premier League 2 Division 2 title. Ronan, meanwhile enjoyed a productive loan spell with DAC in Slovakia.

The aforementioned players could really benefit from the added matches Wolves will have to play next term but their involvement could take a hit should a deal be struck for Camarasa.

Given Ronan only signed a new contract this week, it might feel like somewhat of a betrayal to bring someone else in.

Although Camarasa would be a shrewd investment, his place in the squad is better off going to one of their rising stars. If he did join, it would send out a concerning message to those coming through that perhaps they aren’t up to the task.

Ajax outclassed Tottenham on Tuesday and Donny van de Beek proved his credentials as one of the best-attacking midfielders in Europe. Indeed, he outshone Christian Eriksen on the night, and Spurs need to snatch him before someone else does. 

Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy saw first-hand how the Ajax youngster played their team off the park, and it’s easy to why FC Internews have linked him with a move to the North London side.

This is no hyperbole or us footballing hipsters loving the latest trendy name to emerge on the continent. He proved he’s better than Eriksen at just 22-years-old.

Having played a whopping 52 times for Ajax this season in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and making 11 assists in the process, he looks a genuine creator. In fact, that beats Eriksen’s nine goals and 17 assists in 47 appearances despite the Dane being five years older and widely recognised as one of the best players in the world.

Van de Beek has the quality to be one of the world’s best for the next ten years, and he’s already been compared to Eriksen previously on Calciomercato, via Sky Sports. Now though, it appears he’s much more reliable than his opponent in the final third, picking the right passes more often than Eriksen.

He’s rated at just £22.5m on Transfermarkt but expect Ajax’s asking price to soar in the summer after this breakthrough season. the sale of Eriksen would guarantee the money would be available and that’d be the right choice for the club’s long-term future.

Spurs must sign him in summer to ensure the development of the squad doesn’t go downhill if Eriksen leaves. They’ve seen someone as good, if not better, right in front of their eyes, so they need to pounce on the opportunity.

Southampton are set to make a move for Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo this summer, according to The Express.

What’s the story?

The League One stand-out is out of contract at the end of the season and according to the paper has made it clear he won’t be staying with the Addicks whether they gain promotion to the Championship or not.

The report states Southampton had scouts watching him in action during Charlton’s recent play-off win over Doncaster Rovers and are looking to beat both Man City and Arsenal to his signature, as well as Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers.

Worth the fuss?

Aribo is certainly showing excellent potential in the third-tier, scoring 10 goals and assisting 5 times from midfield this term.

Still just 22 years of age, the Englishman appears to be ready to take the next big step in his career and wouldn’t be the first from the division to join elite sides in recent years, with the likes of Dele Alli and Josh Maja winning moves to Tottenham and Bordeaux.

Why join Saints over City and Arsenal?

Opportunity would be the main reason to forego the riches of the Etihad and Emirates to sign up at St Mary’s.

That’s not to say Southampton have a team of wasters ready to be replaced by League One talents, but the pathway to first-team appearances at Saints is much clearer than joining the super-rich top six sides.

If Aribo wants to make a career for himself in the Premier League then it makes sense to build his reputation at a mid-table club first and foremost.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is an ambitious manager who will be hoping Southampton can finish higher up the Premier League next term and being a key part of that rise could be more beneficial to Aribo’s development than warming Pep Guardiola’s bench.
