Fedor Chalov could potentially be a brilliant addition for West Ham

West Ham have endured a very up and down season so far but nevertheless, look a far better side under Manuel Pellegrini.

After a horrendous start, West Ham found their feet and now see themselves aspiring to finish in 7th place in the bid to secure European football.

That right now remains a far-fetched ambition but if the owners continue to back Manuel Pellegrini during the upcoming transfer windows, the Hammers could be set for a hugely impressive next season.

A position that looks to be of great need in the summer is a centre-forward, as West Ham often find to be the case.

Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez have all been linked with moves away from the London Stadium, meaning West Ham need to find some talent and fast.

One player who could fit the role is CSKA Moscow youngster Fedor Chalov, a player destined for great success in football.

Chalov, (who is valued at £9 million on Transfermarkt) is a clinical finisher that West Ham would be lucky to have within their ranks.

It would, of course, be a bold move considering where he currently plays and how old he is, yet with 11 goals and four assists this season, Chalov has been too impressive for West Ham to dismiss as an option.

The 20-year-old has a good turn of pace, an eye for goal and also the understanding to interlink with his team-mates, which creates more chances for him and his fellow players as well.

As a youngster full of potential, he could look at West Ham as being the best place for him to grow as a player.

Would Chalov be a good signing for West Ham… Let us know!

Saturday should act as a wake-up call for Victor Orta

Leeds picked up all three points on Saturday, but their game against Reading certainly left United fans with a few reasons to be worried.

Supporters once again lambasted Patrick Bamford for his wastefulness against the Royals, but even that wasn’t the most worrying thing to take away from Elland Road this weekend.

Indeed, in the first-half Kalvin Phillips was subbed off due to an injury, and the stadium collectively held their breath wondering whether or not the Yorkshire Pirlo’s problem was serious.

Fortunately, it seems as though he’ll be back sooner rather than later as he gave a reassuring update on Instagram when replying to Ian Wright.

Hopefully, this debacle can act as something of a wakeup call for Victor Orta.

The holding midfield role in Marcelo Bielsa’s 4-1-4-1 formation is described as one of the most important positions in the system, yet, Leeds have just one man who is fully comfortable operating there.

When Phillips was suspended earlier this campaign Bielsa’s grand plan was to play Ben White in his role, but he reneged on that idea a couple of times, with the Brighton loanee starting in midfield just once this season.

Now, we know the Argentine likes to operate with a small squad, but surely he should have backup options in one of his most important spots.

When Phillips came off on Saturday, it sparked a huge tactical reshuffle. Ezgjan Alioski came on for him and headed straight to left-back, Stuart Dallas then moved across the defence into right-back, forcing Luke Ayling into the centre, while White stepped forward into the midfield.

That’s multiple players now playing different roles than they started in, and that can be disorientating for anyone, no matter how well they’re coached.

The problem could have been circumvented if there was a player who could act as a direct replacement for Phillips on the bench, but Leeds simply don’t have a player of that ilk.

Saturday should act as a shot in the arm for Orta, and his first port of call once the summer transfer window opens should be a new backup holding midfielder.

In other news, Leeds fans weren’t happy with one Bielsa call on Saturday.

These Rangers fans are begging Steven Gerrard to make Ryan Kent deal permanent

[ad_pod ]Liverpool’s 22-year-old winger Ryan Kent suffered a pair of bitterly disappointing loan spells in the 2017/18 season, but he has put past failures behind him and used the learning curve to thrive at Rangers.Steven Gerrard’s obvious connection with Liverpool facilitated the arrival of a handful of players from Merseyside in the summer.Ovie Ejaria’s spell was unsuccessful and he has since moved on to a new challenge at Reading, but Kent has developed into a fine player at Ibrox and is beginning to become a darling of the Gers faithful. The dynamic wide man was heavily involved in Rangers’ two opening goals in their 4-2 win at Aberdeen on Wednesday night, and the enormity of his impact has prompted supporters to beg for one thing: a permanent summer transfer.

Players of Kent’s quality are exactly what Gerrard needs to ensure Rangers end Celtic’s supremacy in the SPFL, so it’s no surprise that the fans are so intent on concluding a summer transfer.

If the reaction to his latest performance is anything to by, it’s fair to say Dave King would send the fans into hysteria by reaching an agreement with Liverpool over a permanent switch.

Here’s a selection of the reaction to Kent’s performance on Wednesday night:

Dynamic Anderson shows West Ham United fans what they were waiting for

There was plenty of expectation on the shoulders of Felipe Anderson when he joined West Ham United in the summer.

The Brazilian had been linked with a switch to the London Stadium for some time, and it was finally completed in July for a fee thought to be in the region of £36m.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has started Anderson in all 11 Premier League matches, but it has taken time for the winger to find his stride.

Prior to Saturday’s home clash against Burnley, Anderson had only recorded one goal and two assists in all competitions.

Against the Clarets he was the star of the show, netting two goals in the 4-2 triumph.

As well as finding the back of the net, Anderson was instrumental on the pitch as he created more shots on goal than any of his teammates.

The 25-year-old was heavily involved and tried to use his creativity to instigate attacking moves on a regular basis over the course of the clash.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”326259″ player=”12034″ title=”Liverpool Or Chelsea For The Title Forget it!”]

Anderson had more touches on the ball than any other West Ham player, with Robert Snodgrass coming closest on 78.

Even though some of the Hammers’ results have been undesirable this season, Pellegrini knows that he has some quality individual talent.

If Anderson performs in this manner from now on, he will become an integral part of the season.

Tottenham’s summer would go from bad to unacceptable if they lose Kieran Trippier

According to a recent report from The Daily Mail, Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier is attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs. The 27-year-old made the move to North London back in 2015 after impressing at fellow Premier League side Burnley, and he has since gone from strength to strength to produce the goods for England at this summer’s World Cup, thus attracting reported interest from the likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid.

And given that the summer window hasn’t been a particularly great one for Spurs supporters already, were they to indeed lose the £27 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) between now and the close of the transfer window, the summer would surely go from bad to unacceptable.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, many up and down the country expected Mauricio Pochettino’s men to invest and improve the playing squad this summer, not least following the Argentine’s comments at the rear end of last season, in which he called for chairman Daniel Levy to be ‘brave’ in the transfer market.

Add in the fact that they finished 23 points adrift of Premier League champions Manchester City, and failed to win any silverware, and it looked for all the world that Spurs would add to their squad before the August 9 deadline – that simply hasn’t transpired though as of yet.

And while Pochettino and the club’s hierarchy may point to the fact that some first teamers, including Harry Kane, have signed new deals this summer, the lack of signings must be of concern to Spurs supporters, especially given it seems likely that Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele will leave before August 31.

Thus, it has already been something of a bad summer for Tottenham, and losing Trippier to any of the aforementioned European giants would turn it into a wholly unacceptable one.

The 27-year-old has seamlessly taken over from Kyle Walker as Spurs number one right back following his compatriot’s move to Manchester City last summer, to the point that Trippier actually got the nod from Gareth Southgate to play in the right wing back slot at this summer’s World Cup, with Walker playing as part of a back three.

And his outstanding efforts for the Three Lions, in which he netted once in their semi-final defeat to Croatia and indeed laid on an assist in the 6-1 drubbing of Panama, underlines just how good an attacking threat Trippier is, with it arguable that there aren’t many better crossers of a football in Europe at present than the ex-Burnley man.

Clearly, after such an impressive World Cup, the 27-year-old could go on to have an even better season at Spurs this time round, and if Pochettino’s men are serious about sustaining a challenge for titles this season, and indeed in years to come, they cannot be in the business of selling their first team assets.

Doing so this summer, and thus losing Trippier, would turn Tottenham’s already bad summer into an unacceptable one.

Leeds fans question Liam Bridcutt sale after Sheffield Wednesday loss

Leeds United suffered their third successive defeat on the road in the Championship when they were beaten 3-0 by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday, and Whites fans have questioned the decision to sell Liam Bridcutt as a consequence.

Having lost their previous two away fixtures against Millwall and Cardiff City, Thomas Christiansen would have been hoping for his team to give a positive performance against the Owls, but they failed to do so.

Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips both struggled in the middle of the park with the former having a huge role in Wednesday’s third goal, and it has left the Yorkshire outfit’s faithful wondering what might have been had they not sold Bridcutt to Nottingham Forest during the summer transfer window.

Leeds supporters were quick to have their say on the 28-year-old via social media, and while some said the club “should have kept him”, others feel it was a “mistake” to sell him.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Liverpool fans don’t show much sympathy to Funes Mori on Twitter

With Liverpool hosting Everton on Saturday, hostilities are renewed in one of the fiercest games in the English footballing calendar as the Merseyside derby kicks off the weekend’s action.

While so much has happened at both clubs since the last meeting between the two little over a year ago now, it seems the memories of football fans aren’t quite as short as it sometimes may seem. During the last time the pair locked horns at Anfield, Toffees star Ramiro Funes Mori was sent off for a bad challenge on Reds striker Divock Origi.

As the Argentine walked off the pitch following his dismissal, he seemingly played up to the away support by pointing to the club’s crest on his shirt, a gesture slated by Kop legend Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports after the game.

So, it’s fair to say Liverpool fans online haven’t shown too much sympathy to the 26-year-old following Everton’s statement, revealing Funes Mori was unlikely to play again this season after picking an injury on international duty.

Having said that, here’s a look at how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter.

Spurs’ 10 most likely transfer targets for the summer

Following a 2015/16 campaign that offered so much promise – even if it ended on the rather sour note of finishing behind Arsenal – Tottenham Hotspur fans are undoubtedly looking forward to next season.

But before 2016/17 kicks off in the Premier League, there’s the small matter of the summer transfer window (not to mention the European Championship in France) to deal with first.

And considering Spurs now have the incentive of Champions League football on offer, it could well go down as one of the most significant transfer windows in the club’s history.

They’ll have access to a higher bracket of the transfer market and extra revenue to spend on potential signings, whilst Mauricio Pochettino’s reputation as a top-class coach is resonating throughout Europe.

But, who is actually on the Lilywhites’ radar? Who is most likely to turn up at White Hart Lane in time for next season? How much will they cost and are they worth it?

Well, using our god-given powers of transfer know-how, we’ve shortlisted Spurs’ 10 likeliest targets for the summer transfer window – laden with key stats, contract information and potential price-tags…

BREEL EMBOLO

Breel Embolo has been dubbed the ‘new Didier Drogba’ and recent reports suggest he’s bound for the Premier League this summer, with White Hart Lane a likely destination. The 6 foot 1 striker is just 19 years of age but has already picked up nine caps for Switzerland and helped fire Basel to back-to-back titles, amassing 29 goals over the last two seasons. He’d set the North London club back somewhere in the region of £20million.

MAHMOUD DAHOUD

The German media seem fairly convinced Tottenham Hotspur will swoop for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud, whose breakthrough 2015/16 campaign has been eerily similar to Dele Alli’s with five goals and eight assists in 33 Bundesliga outings from central midfield. Energetic and progressive in style, the £27.5million-rated youngster certainly suits the Mauricio Pochettino philosophy.

VICTOR WANYAMA

The Lilywhites were hot on Victor Wanyama’s heels last summer and have been tipped to revive their interest, due to the Nigerian international’s Southampton contract entering its final twelve months. The 6 foot 2 enforcer offers physical dominance in abundance and would add a new layer of brawn to Tottenham’s engine room – which could prove a real advantage when facing the Premier League’s ‘big boys’ next season.

MARC BARTRA

With his contract set to expire at the end next season, Marc Bartra’s stuttering Barcelona career appears to be coming to a close. The Spain international has managed just 103 appearances since his 2010 debut but remains highly-rated throughout Europe, combining La Masia pedigree with versatility and athleticism. The Spanish press have put the Lilywhites in the frame to snap up the 25-year-old, who is valued at around the £10million mark.

ANDRE SCHURRLE

The Lilywhites would benefit enormously from some lightening pace in the final third and recent reports claim former Chelsea star Andre Schurrle could be the man to provide it. The winger-forward proved his impact on the international stage with Germany at the 2014 World Cup and has just come to the end of a decent season in the Bundesliga, netting nine times in 29 appearances, but inconsistency has been a recurring trend throughout the 25-year-old’s career.

SAMUEL UMTITI

Tottenham’s defensive efforts can’t be faulted this season but that hasn’t stopped the tabloids linking the Lilywhites with one of the top defensive prospects in Europe in the form of Lyon’s Samuel Umtiti. The 22-year-old can operate as a centre-half or a left-back and is developing into the total package, combining power, pace and quality on the ball with a strong reading of the game. The French starlet is rated at around the £20million mark but Spurs face competition from Barcelona amongst others.

ADEMOLA LOOKMAN

Dele Alli has proved promising youngsters can make the step up from the Football League if given the chance and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are reportedly hoping they’ll unearth another gem in Charlton Athletic’s Ademola Lookman. The 18-year-old was plying his trade with amateur side Waterloo FC less than two years ago but is now the Championship’s Apprentice of the Year after netting five times during his debut campaign. The winger-forward looks a real talent and could be a steal at just £8million.

YUNUS MALLI

The north London outfit have been linked with Yunus Malli continuously throughout a very strong 2015/16 campaign for the Mainz star, claiming eleven goals and four assists in 34 Bundesliga outings from the No.10 position. They saw an approach rejected during the January transfer window and are widely expected to revive their £10million interest in the Turkish international, who at 24 years of age appears ready to take his game to the next level.

[ad_pod id=’greatest-players’ align=’center’]

MICHY BATSHUAYI

Finding a dependable understudy to Harry Kane will be a primary objective for Tottenham Hotspur this summer and their priority target appears to be Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi. The Belgium international has just come to the end of a phenomenal season in Ligue 1, bagging 17 goals and nine assists in 36 appearances, and at just 22 years of age is oozing with world-class potential. The Lilywhites are believed to be leading fellow admirers West Ham in the race to sign the £30million-rated striker.

[ad_pod id=’fifa16-wonderkids’ align=’center’]

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE

Another Ligue 1 hitman known to be on Spurs’ transfer radar is Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette. A 31-goal haul last term saw the 24-year-old claim the 2015 Player of the Year award in France and he’s continued to impress this season, notching up 23 across all competitions. But the Stade Velodrome outfit have already rejected a £31million bid from West Ham, so Spurs will have to spend big to sign the France international.

City set to wrap up deal for SavioClub reviewing contract documentsSavio has lit up La Liga with GironaWHAT HAPPENED?

Savio has been ripping it up while on loan at Girona, fuelling the Catalan minnows' most unlikely La Liga title bid. And City, who part-own Girona as well as French side Troyes, are on the verge of bringing the winger to the Etihad Stadium, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano claims City have "all contracts ready for Savinho to join the club in July", adding that the documents are being reviewed and are close to being signed. The 19-year-old was bought by Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2022 but has never played for them, instead being loaned out to PSV Eindhoven before linking up with Girona last summer. Savio, who is also known as Savinho, has scored five goals and set up a further seven for Girona, who have exceeded all expectations this season, topping La Liga on various occasions and currently sitting second. They have lost just two games, both against Real Madrid, who now hold a five-point lead at the top after hammering the Catalans 4-0 last Saturday.

DID YOU KNOW?

Savio set his sights on eventually playing for Pep Guardiola's side when he first signed for Troyes, who were acquired by the City Football Group in 2020. "I have the goal of playing for City. I think that when I was signed my goal was always to get to City and I'm working towards that," he told last August.

Man City player ratings vs Fulham: Julian Alvarez superb as Pep Guardiola's side go top of the Premier League

The Argentina striker scored a stunner and won a penalty at Craven Cottage as City held on for a battling 2-1 win in west London

On another record-equalling day for Erling Haaland, it was his understudy who stole all the headlines for Manchester City as Julian Alvarez scored the goal that sent the defending champions back to the top of the Premier League.

Alvarez was only in the City team after Kevin De Bruyne was ruled out through injury, but wasted little in time in making an impact, as he won a penalty inside 90 seconds after a foul by Tim Ream.

Haaland converted from the spot for his 34th Premier League goal of the season – the joint-most in a single campaign – but Carlos Vinicius pulled Fulham level after 15 minutes with a fine finish.

Alvarez, though, produced a moment of individual brilliance to fire a 25-yard strike past the otherwise impressive Bernd Leno for what proved to be the winner midway through the first half.
