Cuca confirmou ter autorizado Felipe Melo a procurar um novo clube. Após a vitória sobre o Avaí, o técnico pediu para deixar o caso do volante para a última explicação da entrevista coletiva e disse que a decisão de liberá-lo foi tomada em conjunto com Alexandre Mattos e Maurício Galiotte.

– Em uma conversa aberta, eu antecipei os problemas e o deixei à vontade para seguir a carreira, a vida dele que vai ser brilhante. Não foi afastado, apenas no que penso de equipe e composição de meio e ataque, como jogo, não encaixa a titularidade dele, a princípio. No futuro iria dar problema, não tenho dúvida, ele também não tem. Não é laranja podre, outras coisas que falaram. É um profissional preservado, não tenho nada a falar, mas na filosofia que trabalho hoje, não entendo a titularidade. A decisão foi tomada em conjunto com o Alexandre Mattos e com o presidente – explicou o técnico.

– O Felipe Melo é um jogador que jogou só em grandes clubes, no Brasil e exterior. Jogou na Seleção, Copa do Mundo, em alto nível em grandes equipes, como está no Palmeiras, em alto nível, é um grande jogador. Natural que este tipo de jogador, com a personalidade grande e forte, não se contente com uma ou outra situação de não estar jogando – acrescentou.

A decisão foi comunicada ao jogador em uma conversa na sexta-feira – depois disso, o elenco foi também informado. Embora o clube e seu estafe reforcem que não houve conflito, técnico e jogador apenas se “aturavam”. A forma de jogar é apenas uma das diferenças de ideias que os dois, ambos de personalidade forte, têm.

Enquanto Cuca prefere jogadores que marquem próximo do adversário, Felipe acostumou-se a atuar na Europa mais posicionado. Por isso, o camisa 30 fez apenas oito jogos com o técnico, revezando-se entre banco e a titularidade. Com Eduardo Baptista, foram 19 partidas e ele era um dos destaques.

A princípio, a decisão não significa um afastamento; ou seja, Felipe não terá de treinar longe do grupo, ou o clube rescindirá seu contrato. Ficará, agora, esperando interessados no jogador, que pode se transferir tanto para um time do Brasil, quanto da Europa, que fica com a janela de transferências aberta até, pelo menos, o fim do mês de agosto.

Pakistan is considering the option of shifting its home series against New Zealand, scheduled for November-December 2009, to New Zealand due to the concerns about security in the country. Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan board chief executive, said he had meetings with New Zealand Cricket chief Justin Vaughan and was considering his offer to move the series to New Zealand.”We have discussed the series but have yet to reach a final decision on it,” Butt told AFP. “At the moment New Zealand are averse to touring Pakistan. So among the options available, the best is to play in New Zealand.”Butt said playing in New Zealand would be a more economically viable option than playing in the UAE. “The recent series cancellations in Pakistan have hit our finances so, by playing in New Zealand, we can save a lot of money on security arrangements and on various other things.”If we play in New Zealand, the cost of security comes to zero, and further the hotels are cheaper than in the UAE. And after playing in New Zealand, our team can move to Australia for another series,” Butt said. “We also have the option of playing in the UAE, but we want to take all the factors into consideration. Not playing at home is frustrating but we have to give our players some cricket, wherever it may be.”Vaughan said touring Pakistan was not a viable option but New Zealand were “keen to host their series” and would “seek no profits” if it was played on their grounds. However, he said that the weather in November could hinder the staging of a full series and suggested that New Zealand host the Tests, while the ODIs could be played at a later stage. “Pakistan and New Zealand both have relatively uncluttered schedules over the next year or two, so the one-dayers could be deferred until a later stage, if that was necessary to play it in the ideal venue.”The chances of Pakistan hosting international teams in the near future is remote after the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in March. Mohammad Yousuf has claimed that he has “resigned” from the ICL after he decided last month that his priority was to play for Pakistan. The move potentially paves the way for Yousuf’s comeback to the national side, as the PCB recently announced it was willing to talk to players who leave the ICL before the end of May and consider their cases for an international return on an individual basis.”I spoke to Younis [Khan] about a month and a half ago and I resigned from the ICL after that,” Yousuf told Cricinfo. “We both talked about how the country comes first and playing for them is the priority so I decided. I am available whenever the country needs me.”Reports had been swirling around Pakistan since the end of March that Yousuf and a group of other players were considering quitting the ICL after the March-April edition of the league was suspended. ICL players including Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq sought out Younis last month to try and find a way back into the national set-up, after fearing that the ICL – or at least their future participation in it after the deterioration in Indo-Pak ties – might present a tenuous prospect.It is believed that Younis made no recommendations or promises, only telling the players that the priority should be to play for Pakistan, whatever that involves. “Younis was of the view that as they hadn’t come to him before they signed up for the ICL, he doesn’t understand why they came to him when they wanted to leave it,” a source present at the meetings told Cricinfo. “He also pointed out that he cannot guarantee selection as that is a decision in which other parties, and not just the captain, are also involved.” After some consideration and communication with Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, Pakistan’s sports minister, Yousuf resigned from the league, though no official public statement had been made, either by any of the players, or the ICL, until now.There appears, however, to be some confusion over the exact nature of Yousuf’s actions. I had issues with the previous board administration as well,” Yousuf said. “But now I have no problems at all with Younis, or this board. The country comes first.”Though 34, if Yousuf is to come back, he could hardly do so at a more opportune time. Pakistan’s batting has been engaged in a dire struggle against Australia in the UAE. In four matches so far, they have crossed 200 only once and only one batsman, Salman Butt, has scored a fifty. Most visibly, the absence of a 269-ODI veteran averaging over 40 was felt during the third ODI, when Pakistan collapsed from 95-0 to 171 all out, chasing 199. Since the 2007 World Cup and the retirement of Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf has comfortably been Pakistan’s leading batsman, averaging over 60 in 30 ODIs, but he played his last match in July last year.

A DISPUTA PELAS VAGAS DO G6 DA LIBERTADORES

A dupla Corinthians e Grêmio também surge com força na briga pela classificação direta da Libertadores. Os corintianos estão com 99% de chances de carimbar a vaga, e os gremistas têm 95%. Tristão Garcia deixa em 86% tanto as possibilidades matemáticas do Santos quanto as do Palmeiras estarem na competição intercontinental:

– A força de Corinthians e Grêmio contribui muito para se firmar na Libertadores. Já Santos e Palmeiras igualam suas chances pela sequência de jogos. Os santistas, mesmo sendo muito fortes na Vila Belmiro e no Pacaembu, atuarão mais jogos como visitantes até o fim do Brasileirão. O Verdão atuará mais vezes como mandante.

As vagas na fase do mata-mata da Copa Libertadores trazem três favoritos. O Flamengo, atualmente em quinto, está com 55% de possibilidades, enquanto o Sport tem 46% de chances e quem tem mais chance entre os que estão por fora é o Cruzeiro, com 30%:

– O mau momento afetou as chances do Flamengo ficar no G4. A equipe, que tinha uma média promissora, caiu bastante. -O Fluminense está na lista dos times que têm média instável. Precisa de uma sequência de vitórias para fazer uma campanha sem sustos.

Visto pelo mandatário Eurico Miranda como um clube que “vai brigar nas cabeças”, o Vasco é outra equipe sob desconfiança. Mesmo com 11% de possibilidades de ir para a Copa Libertadores, há 14% de chances de rebaixamento:

-O Vasco tem de começar a se preocupar. A equipe teve sete pontos nas seis rodadas mais recentes, média de rebaixamento, e vai se estabilizando como time fraco. Só não está em um momento inferior na classificação devido ao seu bom início.

Já o Botafogo tem 14% de possibilidades de estar no G6, e 10% de risco de descenso.

REBAIXAMENTO

A parte de baixo da classificação é vista com cautela pelo matemático. Porém, um dos rebaixados à Série B de 2018 já é encaminhado, com 85% de chances:

– OAtlético-GO já está com seu descenso praticamente decretado. Os demais clubes estão com um sinal amarelo, porque a situação começa a se definir, de fato, nas últimas rodadas. No momento, Vitória e Avaí são outras das equipes com sinal de alerta, enquanto o São Paulo vejo como uma equipe que acordou tarde.

Tottenham insider John Wenham has expressed his delight over a sponsorship deal that the club has agreed with Getir.

The lowdown: Tottenham and Getir partnership

In August, the north London outfit announced a three-year partnership with the Turkish ‘ultrafast grocery delivery’ service, whose branding features prominently on Spurs’ training kit.

While no figures have been publicised to quantify the financial benefits to Tottenham from the deal, Wenham – who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels – has conducted his own research into the partnership and concluded that it could benefit Spurs enormously.

The latest: Wenham hails Spurs’ Getir partnership

Speaking to Football Insider on Sunday about the partnership between Tottenham and Getir, the Spurs insider gushed: “Tottenham recently announced a shirt partnership with Getir. They are a bit like Uber Eats but deliver groceries on motorbikes. There are a lot of companies like them out there but Tottenham picked these guys for a reason.

“They are a Turkish company. I looked into it because I thought they were quite small-fry. They have huge global revenue turnover and profits, from the looks of it this is a great deal.

“The club have to be so careful with deals like this because there is a lot of competition out there. From looking into this one though, it looks like a great move which is great to see. Both Tottenham and Getir will benefit from this and that’s really the aim with these things.”

The verdict: Spurs could do with a financial boost

Supporters are likely to care far more about players being signed than new sponsorship deals being struck, but with Tottenham needing to take out a £175m loan to cover the costs of lost revenue after the global pandemic hit in 2020, anything which can provide the club with a financial boost should be welcomed.

The authority with which Wenham, who is bound to have Spurs’ best interests at heart, speaks about how the Getir deal is “great” for the club and “will benefit” them offers an assurance that this particular partnership could have a ripple effect which positively affects on-field matters in the long run.

The impact of Getir’s sponsorship is yet to manifest itself, but hopefully Wenham’s confidence will prove well-placed and we will see Spurs reaping tangible value from it in the near future.

The Athletic’s Matt Woosnam fully expects Michael Olise to be dropped to the bench for Crystal Palace’s trip to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. 

The lowdown

Olise made his full Premier League debut for the Eagles against Newcastle United last time out after notching a goal and an assist across his four substitute appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Palace had five ‘big chances’ in the 1-1 draw, and Olise was responsible for creating two of them (via SofaScore).

Football London’s Mark Wyatt handed him a rating of eight out of 10 for his performance at Selhurst Park, the joint-highest in the side. The 19-year-old, he wrote, provided his team with a ‘skilful outlet’ and was ‘always looking to make something happen’.

The latest

In The Athletic’s matchday discussion, a supporter predicted that Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha would return to the line-up at the expense of Olise and Odsonne Edouard.

“Expect that as well,” Woosnam replied, before insisting there is “no chance Olise starts at The Etihad”.

The verdict

Vieira may lean towards Ayew for an away game against the reigning champions because of his defensive contribution.

Ayew did also record his first goal contribution of the season in his last outing against Arsenal, providing the assist for Christian Benteke’s equaliser.

So it’s a justifiable selection, even if it’s one that may frustrate Palace fans in light of Olise’s positive performances.

The manager may look to Olise off the bench once again, knowing that he can make an impact.

Dorival Júnior comandou uma atividade tática de cerca de 40 minutos nesta sexta-feira, no último treino aberto à imprensa antes de enfrentar o Avaí, no domingo, em Santa Catarina. Confirmou o lateral-esquerdo Edimar e o atacante Gilberto com titulares e mostrou preocupação defensiva.

Diante de uma fina chuva, Dorival não mexeu na escalação, que entrará em campo no fim de semana: Sidão; Buffarini, Arboleda, Rodrigo Caio e Edimar; Petros; Marcos Guilherme, Jucilei, Hernanes e Cueva; Gilberto. Dos titulares na vitória sobre o Cruzeiro, na última rodada, saem Marcinho e Pratto, suspensos, e Renan Ribeiro, por opção técnica, para as entradas de Cueva (que volta de suspensão), Gilberto e Sidão.

Edimar, com incômodo na coxa direita, e Gilberto, com dores no joelho esquerdo, voltaram a treinar no gramado somente na última quinta-feira. Mas cumpriram a programação traçada pelo departamento médico e estão completamente liberados para o jogo.

No treino desta sexta-feira, os reservas foram escalados com:Renan Ribeiro; Militão, Aderllan, Lugano e Júnior Tavares; Jonatan Gomez e Shaylon; Maicosuel, Lucas Fernandes e Thomaz; Denilson. Brenner ficou no meio do gramado, apenas assistindo, participando efetivamente do fim do treino, cruzando bolas da esquerda quando Júnior Tavares deixou o treino mancando – sofreu trauma na região lombar recentemente, saiu mais cedo por precaução e, a princípio, não preocupa.

Após aquecimento, Dorival levou cerca de dez minutos para explicar detalhadamente as jogadas e o posicionamento que queria. Quando deixou a bola rolar, focou na recomposição defensiva. Exigiu que as linhas da defesa e do meio-campo voltassem rapidamente para proteger a área de Sidão. Inclusive Gilberto retornava para marcar.

Depois, o técnico trabalhou somente bolas paradas defensivas, tanto em escanteios quando em faltas pelas laterais. Discutia posicionamento com seu auxiliar Lucas Silvestre e, frequentemente, com Sidão, Hernanes, Rodrigo Caio e Gilberto. Sidão precisou fazer uma grande defesa, em cabeçada de Aderllan, mas os reservas não fizeram gol, nem sob intenso incentivo do treinador.

Em outro campo, Lucas Perri, Pratto, Marcinho, Wesley, Foguete e Douglas, que não serão relacionados, faziam atividade técnica em outro campo – Araruna, Bruno, Morato e Wellington Nem, machucados, também serão desfalques. Como Dorival não treinava mais jogadas ofensivas, Renan Ribeiro se juntou a eles na parte final dos trabalhos, mas o goleiro ficará no banco no domingo.

Dorival Júnior comandará na manhã deste sábado, sem a presença da imprensa no CT da Barra Funda, o último treino antes de viajar para Florianópolis. A partida é decisiva: se perder do Avaí, o São Paulo, hoje 16º colocado com 22 pontos, voltará à zona de rebaixamento do Campeonato Brasileiro.
