Taskin set to return for Bangladesh's first ODI in 2016

Taskin Ahmed is set to return following clearance of his bowling action as Bangladesh take on new-look Afghanistan in the first of three ODIs in Mirpur

The Preview by Mohammad Isam in Mirpur24-Sep-2016Match factsSeptember 25, 2016

Taskin last played at an international at the World T20 earlier this year

Big PictureBangladesh and Afghanistan head into the first of three ODIs in Mirpur with different objectives. Afghanistan, playing in their first-ever bilateral series against Bangladesh, will be eager to extend their good form across formats in 2016 – they have won 14 out of 23 matches this year. With a young squad that has a number of senior players making way, they would want to more than just compete.Bangladesh haven’t played international cricket since the World T20 in March-April. Their last ODI came more than 10 months ago. Considering they did so well in ODIs in 2015 – they qualified for the World Cup quarter-finals apart from series wins at home against Pakistan, India, South Africa and Zimbabwe – the forced rest is seen as a setback within the cricketing circles at home.Their landmark maiden series wins against three big sides may have brought about hope of playing more regularly, but opportunities have been far and few. Even their last ‘A’ tour came about more than a year ago, in India. Therefore, this series is important to identify their combinations ahead of the bigger challenge against England at home. For starters, they will welcome the return of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, whose bowling action has been cleared by the ICC.With not much international exposure, the other players have largely been busy with domestic competitions like the Dhaka Premier League, where the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal performed well. They have also tried to replicate top-level scenarios in several practice matches, but shedding rust is a major worry for the team management, which has also been revamped with the addition of former West Indies captain Courtney Walsh (bowling coach) and former Sri Lanka batsman Thilan Samaraweera (batting consultant).Afghanistan have left out the experienced Noor Ali Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran. Youngsters who showed glimpses of their ability in their three-week camp in India have been picked, and they impressed in the practice match against BCB XI. The onus, therefore, is on Asghar Stanikzai, the captain, and Mohammad Nabi would have to guide youngsters likes Rashid Khan and Karim Janat, fresh off the Afghanistan U19s.The contest promises to be intriguing, weather permitting.Form guideBangladesh WWWWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)
Afghanistan LWLWWIn the spotlightSince his match-winning scores in the ODI series against South Africa last year, Soumya Sarkar has averaged just 17.82 in 49 matches in all competitive cricket, including the Asia Cup T20, World T20 and domestic competitions.Mohammad Shahzad has earned the reputation of being a crowd-puller with his exuberance, both with his celebrations and with the bat. He showed his capability at the World T20 in India earlier this year, and will once again be relied on to get the side off to pulsating starts.Teams newsBangladesh will have to choose between Imrul Kayes and Mosaddek Hossain to shore up the top order, which means Nasir Hossain may have to make way. Shafiul Islam, returning to the side after nearly two years on the fringes, could play ahead of Rubel Hossain.Bangladesh (probable) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Imrul Kayes/Mosadek Hossain, 4 Mahmudullah, 5 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 6 Shakib Al Hasan, 7 Sabbir Rahman, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), 9 Shafiul Islam, 10 Taijul Islam, 11 Taskin AhmedAfghanistan will make at least three changes from their last ODI, as Javed Ahmadi, Gulbadin Naib and Yamin Ahmadzai aren’t in the squad. Nawroz Mangal could open with Mohammad Shahzad while Hashmatullah Shahidi, who struck a half-century against BCB XI on Friday, could be slotted into the middle order. Either one of Fareed Ahmed or the uncapped Karim Janat may open the bowling with Dawlat Zadran.Afghanistan (probable) 1 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 2 Nawroz Mangal, 3 Rahmat Shah, 4 Hashmatullah Shahidi, 5 Asghar Stanikzai (capt), 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Najibullah Zadran, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Mirwais Ashraf, 10 Dawlat Zadran, 11 Karim JanatPitch and conditionsThe surface at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium was mostly under cover due to the heavy rain in Dhaka. The ball has tended to move around a little more than usual under lights at this time of the year, which means chasing could be tricky. But the captain who wins the toss may have a difficult decision to make, considering rain could make an appearance in the second-half, which could bring Duckworth-Lewis calculations into the picture.Stats and trivia Shakib is two wickets away from becoming Bangladesh’s highest ODI wicket-taker, taking over from Abdur Razzak who has taken 207 wickets. This is Bangladesh’s first bilateral ODI series against an Associate Nation at home since 2008 when they played against Ireland in a three-match ODI series.Quotes”We have got the ammunition so let’s see if they can surprise the Bangladesh batsmen”

Rangers Could Form A Dream Duo With 24 Year Old "Goals coring Machine"

Michael Beale has already made five signings for Glasgow Rangers since taking charge of the Ibrox side back in November last year, with Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell joining in January, while Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland have all joined on free transfers over the previous few weeks.

No stone is being left unturned in Beale’s chase to knock Celtic off their perch and with a host of players departing Ibrox, the 42-year-old will need to be extremely diligent to replace them effectively and without splurging vast sums on players who might not impress.

One player who the Light Blues have been linked with since the new boss arrived is FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez, with scouts having been sent to monitor his performances, although the likes of Everton and Crystal Palace are also keen on making a move for the American.

The Gers are thin in resources with regard to their attacking department, especially due to Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent leaving, although Vazquez certainly has the capabilities to fill the void vacated by the Colombian.

Could Rangers sign Brandon Vazquez?

Nothing can be ruled out at this stage, particularly due to a potentially large turnover in playing staff over the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old has set MLS alight with his performances over the previous 18 months, netting 20 goals in all competitions during 2022, while already grabbing six in 20 so far this term, suggesting he is consistent in front of goal.

Beale could certainly form a formidable duo with him and the aforementioned Cantwell, as the Englishman has enjoyed somewhat of a career rejuvenation since joining the Gers in January.

Having registered zero goal contributions in 18 games for Norwich City during the first half of the season, Beale sparked a belief that he could succeed in Scotland and was rewarded with six goals and five assists in 20 matches, announcing himself to the Premiership.

Now imagine these two in the same team, creating chaos for opposition defences throughout Scotland and even in Europe. The 25-year-old created five big chances and made 1.3 key passes per game in the league during his brief spell in Glasgow already, indicating that Vazquez would be fed regularly with opportunities to add to his goal tally.

FC Cincinnati striker Brandon Vazquez.

Having scored a goal once every 154 minutes, the Cincinnati hitman could take advantage of Cantwell’s creativity. His 19 MLS goals were spread fairly evenly between his right and left foot, alongside scoring a few with his head, therefore, the English midfielder could feed the ball into him several different ways, and it would still prove successful, such is his adaptability with both feet.

Former journalist turned agent Chris Smith, described Vazquez as a player who “has developed into a ruthless goalscoring machine” and Beale is in desperate need of someone like this ahead of a vital 2023/24 season.

Krishnamurthy, Gayakwad seal India's series sweep

Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s four-for and Veda Krishnamurthy’s half-century sealed a 3-0 series win for India against West Indies

Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s 4 for 34 helped India women defend 199, after Veda Krishnamurthy’s 71 had helped set it up, as West Indies women were whitewashed 3-0 in the ODI series. The duo had led India to win in a similar pattern in the first ODI as well – Gayakwad had taken a four-for and Krishnamurthy had scored a fifty. This was both teams’ final ICC Women’s Championship game. West Indies, who needed just one win at the start of the series to seal automatic qualification to the World Cup next year, remain in fourth place with 22 points. They now have an outside chance of missing out on automatic qualification, should South Africa whitewash Australia in the three-match series beginning from November 18. India finished the campaign with 19 points, and will have to earn their qualification to the World Cup.Put in to bat, India suffered a top-order wobble as no batsman from the top four went past 25. India were crawling at 52 for 3 in the 21st over before Krishnamurthy salvaged the innings. She first took the score past 100 along with Harmanpreet Kaur in a stand of 51 for the fourth wicket, and then past 150 in the company of debutant Devika Vaidya with whom she put on 57 for the sixth wicket.India managed 39 runs in the last 31 balls, after Krishnamurthy fell for 71 (79b, 10×4) in the 45th over. Vaidya finished unbeaten on 32 off 45, and Jhulan Goswami scored a useful 18 off 16. Chedean Nation, returning to international cricket after seven years, took 2 for 21 from her seven overs.West Indies’ top order gave them a steady start in their chase. Hayley Matthews (44) put on 49 for the opening stand with Shaquana Quintyne (18) and 20 for the second with Kycia Knight (55), before Gayakwad trapped her in front. West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor and experienced batsman Deandra Dottin scored 14 each, but there were no significant partnerships till Merissa Aguilleira (22) put on 46 with Knight for the sixth wicket. They kept the chase alive, before Aguilleira was run out with West Indies still needing 34 off 32. Gayakwad then removed Knight, followed by Britney Cooper, in the 47th over. She also removed Anisa Mohammed in the 49th in between two run-outs, that saw West Indies lose their last five wickets for just 18 runs.

50 y/o Could Make Shock Man Utd Return Thanks To Takeover

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani will reportedly be happy to welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back to Manchester United if his takeover bid is successful.

What's the latest on Sheikh Jassim's Man United takeover bid?

After months and months of negotiations, the Qatari banker looks as though he could beat Ineos billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race to buy the Premier League club.

Former player Rio Ferdinand even recently filmed himself singing "Hallelujah" in delight after hearing Sheikh Jassim's bid looks to be successful.

However, those claims are yet to be confirmed and so we don't know with any great certainty just yet who the Glazers will be selling to.

Man United fans will have differing opinions on who they want to take over, but a fresh nugget of information could help sway a few in one direction or the other.

Indeed, as per a report in The Mirror, Sheikh Jassim – who is negotiating a period of exclusivity with the Glazers to complete a 100% takeover of United – wants to bring back club legends if he gets the deal done.

It's said that a number of players who used to play under Sir Alex Ferguson are on the prospective owner's "shortlist" and it is highlighted that Solskjaer is among those who could yet return.

Why was Solskjaer sacked at Man United?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Manchester United in 2021 after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat away at Watford having failed to win any trophies during his time in charge.

With that in mind, it remains unclear how happy fans would be to see him back at Old Trafford. Of course, with Erik ten Hag in charge, there's no suggestion that the Norwegian would be offered the chance to come back as head coach any time soon.

Incidentally, while speaking at an event last month, Solskjaer even spoke about the possibility of one day returning to his former club.

He said (via The Mirror): "I’ve got another job in me, if it’s the right chance and exciting enough.

"There are so many clubs, but I’m not going to work just for the sake of working. It has to be something special, a new culture, or a club that really excites me. Or maybe they will want me back at the club [United] in some capacity, who knows?"

If Sheikh Jassim can complete a takeover, this situation with Solskjaer certainly looks like something to keep an eye on over the coming months.

'Sore' James Anderson out of Chennai Test

James Anderson will miss the final Test of the series in Chennai with what has been described as “body soreness” by England captain, Alastair Cook

George Dobell in Chennai15-Dec-2016James Anderson will miss the final Test of the series in Chennai with what has been described as “body soreness” by England captain, Alastair Cook.Anderson, who missed England’s two Tests in Bangladesh and the first Test of this series due to a shoulder injury, was later said to have experienced “soreness” in his ankles and in the shoulder. While Cook said Anderson “could get through” the game and was disappointed to be missing out, he explained that the England camp wanted to take no chances with a bowler who they felt “can make a big contribution” to their Test fortunes over the next couple of years.”It’s not worth the risk,” Cook said. “When he has been in this situation over the last six months and we have played him, he has picked up injuries. It doesn’t seem the right time to play him.”He is sore from the previous game and we, as a management group, don’t think it’s worth taking a risk.”Could he get through? Yes, he possibly could. But over the last six months when we’ve played him, he has picked up an injury.”Anderson has now missed eight of England’s most recent 23 Tests, including five this year.Bearing in mind England’s schedule – they do not play another Test until July – it does seem an abundantly cautious decision and will lead some to conclude that he has been dropped. And it is true that his record in this series – four wickets at a cost of 53.50 apiece and no wickets in the two most recent Tests – is not wonderful. But this decision is more likely to be a manifestation of how highly valued Anderson remains in the eyes of the England management and how vital he is to their plans for the English summer of 2017, the Ashes and, perhaps, beyond. With England 3-0 down, it is a dead rubber.”I’m very confident he can make a big contribution to English cricket over the next couple of years,” Cook said. “But we’re going to have to manage him a bit more in Tests. He might miss a couple more Tests as a precaution. He might not. With a couple of months off now, his body might fly again. He’s a very athletic guy and he’s very light on his feet. He can still make a big difference to English cricket over the next couple of years.”Stuart Broad could come back into the side in place of Anderson, but a decision over his fitness will only be made after training on Thursday. Liam Dawson, the left-arm spinner, could also replace Anderson and provide the side with some of the balance it appeared to miss in Mumbai.

West Ham Set To Sell £30m Forward, He’s Agreed Terms

West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has already accepted a proposal to return to Italy, just a year after his £30m move to London.

How many goals has Scamacca scored?

Scamacca was an incredibly exciting prospect before making his move to West Ham last year. The Italian striker scored 16 goals in Serie A last year for Sassuolo, earning himself an expensive move to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has struggled however since his move, failing to replicate his success with just three goals in 16 Premier League appearances last season. The forward performed to a higher level in West Ham's Conference League triumph, scoring three in seven.

Scamacca began life at the London Stadium in a promising way, scoring four in his first 13 games. This early season form prompted captain Declan Rice to laud the striker with praise.

“I can tell you now he’s going to be unbelievable,” Rice told talkSPORT. “He‘s going to be really, really special." West Ham's captain passionately exclaimed "he’s just on another level".

The Italian has made 11 national team appearances so far, with zero goals there to his name, showing the forward could struggle to perform under major pressure.

Due to his poor season, Scamacca now appears set on a return to Serie A, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness. The report adds that AS Roma are the club most interested in the forward, due to Tammy Abraham being injured for the foreseeable future.

Scamacca is also reportedly extremely keen on the move with it being stated that he ‘has already accepted the proposal to return’ to his home country.

It is believed the Hammers aren't interested in a loan move and would prefer a clean break, but if no sale transpires a loan could indeed happen. It is believed a positve season on-loan could benefit West Ham too.

Will West Ham replace Scamacca?

West Ham would likely need to replace Scamacca if they lose him. His departure would leave them short up front with just an ageing Michail Antonio and injury prone Danny Ings in the ranks.

According to The Daily Mail, West Ham have identified Coventry City's Viktor Gyokeres as their primary striking target.

The Swedish striker is valued at £25m, and it is thought there are at least four Premier League sides in the hunt. The 25-year-old scored 21 Championship goals last season while also contributing ten assists as he fired Coventry to the play-off final.

Gyokeres is an incredibly exciting talent and could be a huge upgrade for West Ham on the current options available to David Moyes.
